Backup Error 0x800704D3 "Request aborted"

Backing up my files to DVD caused the following to appear -

 Error 0x800704D3 "Request aborted"

followed by "The backup has failed".

I use Backup & Restore in Vista Home Premium (32-bit) to back up files on a weekly basis and this is the first time I've encountered this error.

Browsing through various forums it seems to be a long-standing problem.

I've tried the following fixes -

checking for filter values in the registry (none present)

performing a clean boot using Selective Start in the Config Manager

temporarily isolating 3rd party AV/malware programs (although these have not appeared to have caused any issues previously).

I haven't installed any 3rd party software since my previous backup.

Further suggestions/experience of this error would be welcome.

Thank you.

Thank you Mohit for your reply.

TBH I don't generate a great deal of data, it usually takes 10 or 11 backup sessions to fill one 4.7Gb DVD so I hadn't really thought that I warranted the expense and potential complication of an external drive. Perhaps naively I placed more trust in the robustness of optically-based storage compared to electro-magnetic storage.

I do use a laptop (Sony VAIO) but it helpfully prevents use of the DVD drive whilst on battery power only, I only make backups when hooked up to the electrical mains charger/converter.

Meanwhile, error 0x800704D3 persists and has even extended its capabalities to preventing me from formatting disks.

    Thank you for your reply.

I hadn't considered using System Restore so I thought 'That's a good idea'. I was somewhat disconcerted to find that all system restore points had mysteriously vanished so that seemed to be a non-starter, not to mention the raising of questions as to what has happened to my system restore points.

    Hey Andy ,

Looks like you need larger storage, try acquiring an External drive and

backup to that, the storage is plenty and the prices are low.

Make sure its not a laptop running on battery .

    Hi,

I would suggest you to perform system restore to before a time the issue occurred.

I would also suggest you to check with other DVD disk.

    Method 1:

I would also suggest you to check the following services from the steps listed below.

**a.**Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type administrative tools, and then click Administrative Tools.

    b. Double-click Services. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    c. Right-click the Volume Shadow Copy service, and then click Properties.

    d. On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Manual is selected.

    e. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    f. Now under properties click the Dependencies tab.

Look for the “Dependencies” and make sure all the dependency services are running and set to “Manual” or “Automatic”.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to perform system restore from the recovery option and check.
