Original title:"Yellow excalmation mark in device manage next to ctsstcorp cddvdwts l633l ata device "

Can you help? I have a problem with the above.

I tried to back up my files to an external hard drive, on plugging the usb, instead of opening on the screen, on the task bar the safely remove hardware comes up.

But I do not want to remove the hardware as I have only jut plugged it in!

In the Device manager there is a yellow excalmation mark , if I click the properties it says that it cannot be used because it is has been prepared to be removed and code 47.

When I do remove this error and excalmation mark stays there, so I connot use the usb , disc drive or sd slot

    Hi,

You may try these steps and check if it helps:

    a. Go to Control Panel  and Device Manager.

    b. Click in the blank/white area - then view at top

    c. Check Show Hidden Devices

Now look for ALL instances of the sd Device (or whatever it is labeled as) in Disk Drives and everywhere except USB Controllers

If you find any right click on them and uninstall.

Now - go to USB Controllers and right click and uninstall everything except the category itself.

    d. Apply/ ok.

    e. You may reboot

This will refresh your entire USB setup and often fixes your issue.

Thank you for your answer but unfortunatley I still have the problem, maybe I confused you , because I certainly am.

When I turn on laptop once it is loaded in the notification area Safely remove hardware icon appears. At this point I do not have anything plugged in.

If I click on this and go to properties it says to stop  , and then remove, If i click stop and then close the icon disappears, but on checking in the device manager the yellow excalmation mark appears.

I have tried various fix it's , but they do not work, this is what comes up in the device status

Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)

To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.

Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details.

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

I think that maybe I need to get rid of the yellow exclamation mark (but don;t know how to) will I have to re istall
