Original Title: Unable to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium, error code 0xc000000e

I am attempting to reinstall windows 7 on my dell n5010 but when i press f8 I can't access the advanced boot menu and just get the following:

Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

  1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
  2. Choose your langugae settings, and then click next
  3. Click "repair your computer."

Status: 0xc000000e Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

Can anyone help as I don't have a recovery cd and Dell want to charge me for one!

    Hi,

    1.     Did you make any recent changes to the system prior to the issue?

    2.     Are you able to boot in safe mode?

    3.     What type of installation do you want to perform?

    4.     Is it a clean installation or a repair installation?

    5.     Why do you want to perform a re-installation?

    6.     What is the exact issue that made you to decide a re-installation?

If you are referring to perform a factory restore settings, I would suggest you to contact Dell Support for further assistance.

    Hope it helps.

Totally confusing question & answer sequence.  The original question was about the error on Windows 7.  The we get an answer, seeming from the original poster but with a different name, that says it was fixed by using 2 Vista disks.????

I think I'll move on to the next answer for 0xc000000e....

I cant get it to work. ive bought recovery disks. downloaded repair programs, repair disks, nothing works, this is on win7 ultimate os  I just keep getting 0xc000000e.   WHAT is inaccessible? GOOD old win os.

The error message is designed to confuse everybody but IT professionals as far as I can see.  It means you've got a problem with a piece of software called bootmgr, which is what makes the Windows 7 load up.

    The POSSIBLE fixes are:

Boot from CD. This will take some time!

    Open a c

Command Prompt, and run the following program with 4 different parameters.

    Bootrec /fixmbr

    bootrec /fixbuild

    bootrec /scanos

    bootrec /rebuildbcd

If that doesn't work, download a program called Easy BCD from Neosmart. After that - give up!

None of the suggested solutions I tried (other websites too) did not work for me but I found my own solution for the 0xc000000e winload.exe problem.

Here are the steps I took:

    1. You should have the following two DVDs:

           a. Vista Anytime Upgrade

           b. Vista Home Premium or Vista SP2 Home Premium Retail OEM

    1. Insert the Vista Anytime Upgrade into your DVD player
    2. Reboot and select Repair
    3. Select Language and Country
    4. Select "Repair your computer"
    5. Next
    6. Select Startup Repair. This process will go on for a while and you will be informed what is going on. The system will reboot at the end of this process
    7. Now you should have a working but incomplete Windows Vista when done. You can boot safely from Drive C: and you will NOT see the regular Vista Colors
    8. Must. You need to remove the Windows PowerShell application from your HD. I believe it is in  C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowershell\v2.0.
    9. Insert the Vista Home Premium or Home Premium Retail OEM DVD into the DVD player
    10. Navigate to the DVD player and Dbl Click on Setup.exe.

12*.* Let it run for a while. At the end you should have a perfect Windows Vista working with colors
