I was wondering if there was a way to hide certain things such as devices and device groups that don't apply to the user? For example, my customers Tim Hortons and Subway need to only see their devices and info (hide everything else that is not theirs). My goal is to use 1 app, many devices and many customers.
Is there a way to filter this information for them or do you think i should create separate apps for each customer?
If there is an app per customer, how do operations see all devices for all the apps under 1 view?
Hi - not today, but we're working on a capability to allow onboarding multiple users (tenants) and segmenting their access based on their organizational membership. This should accomplish exactly what you've outlined above. This feature is slatted to launch later this year.

Unfortunately the workarounds available right now are not very elegant. Option 1 would be to create an app per tenant (Org), which increases your management overhead. The second option would be to keep all tenants in one app, but then don't provide access to the app but instead build your own UI/API that provides access to the device data. You can then tag device data via continuous data export (CDE) with a cloud property or something else to denote that the data coming from those devices belongs to customer A vs. Customer B. Does that make sense?

I can see a suitable workaround can be only an option 1, such as creating an app per tenant.
In the case of option 2 based on the own UI/API driven by continues data export, what will be in this case advantage of using the IoT Central App over the pipeline of IoT Hub + ASA job + PowerBI?

Well there's still advantages in terms of not having to build and maintain the HD/DR story, scale, etc. that IoT Central provides; but nonetheless, yes the value diminishes when you have to take care of RBAC outside of the product. RBAC is a big piece of the solution.
