Hi Prashant,

Try uninstalling security essentials and install avast.  I have installed trial version it found an additional virus and after that my system is working fine.  Try it and check if it works.

Regards

    Thank you for your reply.

    1. Yes this happens with every usb.  when I right on the short cut and view the file it refers to C/windows/system32/rundll32

    2.  It is HP pavilion g6 notebook PC with windows 7 home premium 64bit

    3.  No changes were made but security essentials found some viruses day before yesterday and removed them.  If I remember correctly one of the virus was torjandroppler

I have run Microsoft Saftey Scanner in safe mode but no viruses are found

Additionaly I tried to contact HP support I was in the middle of chat when it halted and now I cannot connect HP Support assisstant is giving errors.

    Regards

    Muzzammil

    Hi Rasheed,

I request you to answer a few questions, so that we can diagnose this issue correctly:

**1.**Does the issue occur with every USB port and pen drive?

**2.**What is the make and model/configuration of the computer?

**3.**Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

This issue can occur due to virus infections.

To be safe, I request you to download Microsoft Safety Scanner, boot the computer in Safe Mode and run a full virus scan.

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started.

Follow the link below to learn how to do so.http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Run a full virus scan and check if the issue is resolved.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free-to-download security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. It works with your existing antivirus software.

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

**Disclaimer:**Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

If the issue is specific to a particular USB drive, I request you to scan it as well. Please remember that the computer will not be able to detect the USB drive in Safe Mode. You will have to scan it in Normal Mode.

I request you to create another thread for the issue with Windows Defender, so that it receives the correct troubleshooting steps.

Please let us know the status of the issue.
