My PC is getting on a bit but this is the first time I have had this problem.Security update will not install XP(KB2757638)

-Is this issue specific to any particular update? Are you able to install other updates successfully?

These errors may be caused by any of the following issues:

·         Programs or processes that interfere with Internet communications

·         Resource issues on the computer

·         High Internet activity

·         Recoverable database errors

Try these methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Method 2:

I would suggest that you place the computer in the Clean Boot state and check if it helps.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "Clean Boot." A Clean Boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
