Windows 8 time keeps changing randomly

Hello everyone,

I am hoping someone can help me out with the issues I am having with my laptop. It is brand new, running Windows 8. Everything works fine except for the clock. The time keeps changing and I am unable to sync with Internet Time. Each time I try to sync I get the error message "The peer is unresolved."

I haven't noticed any particular pattern for the way the time keeps changing, except that if I turn it off and turn it back on hours later the time hasn't moved at all from what it was displaying when I turned it off.

I have searched and tried many things, including the instructions in this post: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_store/why-windows-store-not-able-to-connect-to-proxy/8c400732-68a1-4875-906a-cae90081dc40. I got the same error message as that user- "no time data is available."

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Method 1 does not work for windows 8, Microsoft Fix It support ends with windows 7.

    Hi Meagan,

    Thanks for the update.

It seems that the issue could be hardware related. If the time doesn’t change when the computer is turned off, then you might need to replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard. This CMOS battery is responsible to track the time, when the computer is switched off.

However, you can also try to clear the CMOS cache and check if the issue is resolved. You will have to contact the computer manufacturer to do this, as the settings differ for each manufacturer.

There is every chance that this issue could occur on a new computer; especially if the CMOS battery is faulty.

Please get back to us with the status of the issue.

    Hi Manasa,

Thanks for your reply. I followed the link to the troubleshooter and it is giving me the error message "We're sorry but your operating system is not supported by Microsoft Fix it at this time."

Like I said before, the laptop is only 2 weeks old so I'm not sure why I would be getting this sort of message?

    Appreciate your help!
