I have Windows 7 and am having problems with Live Movie Maker.  I've used it before but all of the sudden the play button underneath the selected picture preview is missing.  The number is still there for the length of the slideshow but not the traveling dot and play button.  Please help!

Can you confirm if you have Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 or if you have upgraded to Movie Maker 2012?  Go to the File menu and look under About Movie Maker to know for sure.

Have you installed anything on your system recently that might have affected Movie Maker? Say an updated driver or a system update?  One thing you could try is a System Restore back to before the problem started happening.

Alternatively, if you have a screenshot of the issue, it might help us diagnose the problem further. Perhaps you could put a photo up on imgur.com or a similar site and post a link to it.

    Hi CourtSt,

Thanks for coming back. Let's try to isolate if the issue was caused by corrupted Movie Maker related files. Try repairing it by following these:

    1. Press Windows + R, type AppWiz.cpl, click OK.

    1. Select Windows Live Essentials, click Uninstall/Change.
    2. Click Repair all Windows Essentials Programs.

In case issue persists, I suggest that you reinstall Movie Maker by following the steps below:

    1. Press Windows + R, input AppWiz.cpl, and click OK.

    1. Select Windows Live Essentials, click Uninstall/Change.
    2. Click Remove one or more Windows Essentials programs.

    4. Tick Movie Maker.

    1. Click Uninstall.
    2. Download Windows Essentials and install.

    Regards,

    Richard

I do have Movie Maker 2011.

I don't believe I have installed anything that would affect it.  I do all the automatic updates as they are provided (maybe one of those messed it up?)

Can I do a system restore for just this program or will it restore everything else on my computer to that date...I don't want to do that.

I did upload a screen shot to imgur.com

Under the large preview window on the left there is the numbers for the length of the show and where I am at.  There is no button to play/pause and no actual line as there used to be.  I can't seem to play the slideshow to watch it before editing.  I tried looking for a way to do it from the top menu but cant find anything.

    Thank you for your help!
