camera driver fails to load error code 28

I have just completed installing Windows 8 pro over my Vista OS it was an internet download upgrade.  Everything was working fine prior to instal but now I have no onboard camera.

I have an ASUS Model PRO31P (it is a few years old, but still working fine).  I intially had three failed drivers but was able to fix one using the fixes from this site, however I am unable to install the drivers for the onboard web camera and AVerTV.  I get the following message when I attempt to run the troubleshoot hardware and devices 'dirvers were identified but encountered a error while trying to save.

On looking through the individual devices options I get the drivers for this device are not installed (code error 28)  The image on the device is like a black clock, the image with AVerTV is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark ( I think this just means troubleshoot?).

I would like to update another computer but not that confident with these errors to proceed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi John,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thanks for posting the question.

Based on the description it looks like you are facing an issue with onboard webcam after installing Windows 8 Operating System.

Error Code 28 is caused by a missing driver for that particular hardware.

I would recommend you to install the webcam drives from the manufactures’ website.

Refer: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&s=87&m=Pro31P&os=&hashedid=n%2fa

Note: If it is compatible with Windows 8 then I would suggest you to install the drives in compatible mode.

What is program compatibility? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-program-compatibility

Make older programs compatible with this version of Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/older-programs-compatible-version-windows

Hope the information provided is helpful.

If you need any other information about Windows, feel free to post your questions and we will be glad to help.

Microphone: I would recommend you to install microphone drives in compatibility mode and check if it helps.

Vijin.     GREAT Solution for the camera working fine across all app. ASUS website had two drivers need to try both before the correct one worked.  I got lost with the compatibility option as I don't have an app nor could I find the ref to USB 2.0 image capture controller during the troubleshooting.  But in the end the camera works fine.

However you fix one problem and find another,  I don't have the microphone which is also integrated into the same webcam.  I attempted to reinstall from same Manu site the audio driver, but indicates that it is not for windows 8 (every other system).  The microphone does work but the volume even on max only picks up a whisper.  Is there another way to increase the input volume?
