Windows 8. All programs open in a small window. How do I vary the size of this window or, alternatively, have the new window automatically open full size?

Thanks

    Hi Rajith

Yes, I've had this problem from the time I purchased the computer.

However, I tried your final suggestion and, guess what, IT WORKED !!!

I'm so happy. Thanks for your help. Something so simple but if you don't know just what to try then it can be so frustrating.

By the way (and this isn't a complaint) clicking on desktop icons now opens full screen windows, which suits me just fine, but when I hit the "reduced screen" button on one window then ALL windows open in reduced size but ALL are the SAME reduced size. I'll play around a bit more but thanks again. You've made my day.

    Hi,

    1. Have you started facing this issue recently?
    2. Are you facing this issue only with shortcut folder or programs?
I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps.

a.Close all windows except one of these smaller windows.

b.Grab the corners of the small window with your cursor and stretch it to the desired size (do not use the maximize button on top bar).

c. Now, close the resized window.
d.Now, open the window, the resized window will be the last window closed in order for its size to be remembered.

If you are facing this issue on a shorcut folder or programs, you have the option of always opening the windows in Maximized mode.

    a. Right-click on the shortcut program and choose **Properties.**b. Under Shorcut tab, choose Maximized drop down menu next to run.

    c. Click on Apply and OK.

Let us know if it helps. If the issue persists, please reply, we will be happy to help you.

    Hi,

Are you facing this issue from the time you purchased this laptop?

You will find the Shorcut tab only on shorcut folders.

Also, try this: Open a program and size the window to your liking. Hold down the CTRL key while clicking the “X” to close the program. This will set the program window to open at this setting every time.

    Hope this helps.

What happens if you press the Maximize square (top right corner) and then just close and then reopen the window?

This sometimes works. Resize the windows to suite. then go to the left hand corner of the window, and above the word File, left click, select "Close".

If you can't do it via Windows try a third party free program.

    Hi Rajith

Thanks for the prompt reply and your suggestions.

I purchased a new Asus desktop about four weeks ago and it was delivered with Windows 8 pre-loaded.

I tried your first suggestion however the windows continue to open in the smaller size. No joy there!

When following your second suggestion a "right click" on Properties opens a "General" window only. There is no "Shortcut" tab and hence no "Maximised" option.

For what it's worth I'm using "Desktop" mode rather than the new Start menu and all my commonly used sites are accessed by shortcut icons.
