How do I remove acceleration from MouseKeys?

I am trying to use MouseKeys. It's currently impractical, because it takes a full second to accelerate (you don't realize how often you change mouse direction during normal use until it takes a full second to make any adjustment.)

I have TimeToMaximumSpeed 1000, MaximumSpeed=358, and Flags=111 in the registry, under

HKCU - Control Panel - Accessibility - Mousekeys

These are values obtained by using "Set up Mouse keys" under Ease of Access, maxing out both the acceleration and the speed sliders.

Setting more practical values by editing the registry doesn't seem to work (if anything, it seems like increasing Max Speed or decreasing Time To beyond these numbers causes MouseKeys to use its default values.)

I (nervously) tried removing the TimeToMaximumSpeed and MaximumSpeed keys entirely. As with editing the numerical values, the resulting behavior seemed to be the default values for MouseKeys. I decided to leave the "Flags" key alone until asking about my problem here.

How do I adjust MouseKeys behavior so that full speed is achieved immediately with no delay?

If literally 'no delay' is impossible, then a negligible delay (below 50) would be ok. (I would also welcome a proposed solution that requires third-party freeware. I don't mind installing a program in order to achieve this functionality.)

Thanks in advance.

I am not experiencing any mouse hardware malfunction. The issue I raised concerns how to customize the MouseKeys accommodation available through the Microsoft Ease of Access interface, in order to make the accommodation feature more usable (hopefully!).

I don't have any hardware, device, or SFC problems.

The computer in question is a Lenovo T400, but the issue is hardware-independent. I have tested MouseKeys on a variety of computers and keyboards with identical results.
