Original Title: Proxy Server Error question

Hi-

I recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 8. Had everything working OK, then did a windows update and now my Internet Explorer does not work.  It gives an error saying the Proxy Server not found.  I don't use a proxy server.  I went into the Internet Properties, Connections, LAN settings pop-up window and the "Automatically Detect settings" box was checked, and below that in the proxy server section the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" is also checked.  These sections are grayed out so I can not "un-check" them.  How do I fix this?  And why did they suddenly get checked off after I up-loaded the current up-dates?

Thanks-

Joe

    Hello Joe,

This might be caused due to one of the following reasons:

    -   Due to corrupted Internet Explorer settings.

    -   Due to Add-ons installed on the computer.

Perform the following troubleshooting methods and check how it works.

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to run “Internet Explorer Performance” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue with Internet Explorer.

Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter.

    a.       Press “Windows key + W” from the keyboard.

    b.      Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the search box and hit Enter key.

    c.       Select “View all” option from the left panel.

    d.      Then select “Internet Explorer Performance” and follow the on-screen instructions.

    Method 2:

Open Internet Explorer in No Add-ons mode and check how it works.

    Follow these steps:

    a.       Press “Windows key + R” from the keyboard.

    b.      Type “iexplore –extoff” without quotes in the Run window and hit Enter key.

    c.       This will open Internet Explorer in No Add-0ns mode.

I hope this helps you to fix the issue. If the issue persists or you have any other issues with Windows, please do post it in Microsoft Community. We would be happy to help you.
