Program association for .bat files

Hello,

I have gotten myself into a bit of a worrying situation.

I went into Control Panel, and I went to the "Associate a file type with a program" section and associated .bat files with C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe.

Now, when I open .bat files, I just get taken to the regular command prompt, with the command directory set to where the batch file is located.

I am quite worried that this might interfere with the autoexec.bat file that gets run whenever I start my computer.

If there is any solutions to un-associate CMD.exe with .bat files that would be great.

Thanks,

    Hello BurrWalnut,

I don't really feel comfortable about running script downloaded from a non-official site (by non-official i mean not Microsoft) on my computer.

Do you have a solution that I can do myself? Like, for example, edit the registry manually?

    Thanks,

The website is well known, respected and perfectly safe.

If you want to type the registry changes yourself, download the script to the Desktop, don’t merge it but right-click it and open it with Notepad. Now you will be able to type the many changes yourself.

Don’t concern yourself with autoexec.bat as Windows 7 doesn’t use it.

Be concerned in resetting the .bat association, which can be achieved by running this registry script. Scroll down to the .bat extension here http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html
