    Lenovo Ideapad U550

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.70

Thanks I have been able to solve this but have ran into another one...

System Restore System protection is turned off.

Tried doing this: To turn on system protection for a particular disk

You can't turn on system protection for a disk that's formatted using the FAT or FAT32 file systems.

    1. Click to open System.
    2. In the left pane, click System protection.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. Under Protection Settings, click the disk, and then click Configure.
    4. Do one of the following:
      • To be able to restore system settings and previous versions of files, click Restore system settings and previous versions of files.
      • To be able to only restore previous versions of files, click Only restore previous versions of files.
    5. Click OK, and then click OK again.                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Resulting - Could not apply the settings for the following reason: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. Great answer, Srimadhwa!

I was not able to turn on System Restore on my drive, and I followed your advice and sure enough found that there were two entries and one saying "missing." I had to do an extra small step or two that involved going back and forth between the two listings, but just when I thought it wasn't working the "missing" volume disappeared all together. Problem solved. Thanks!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

This error is caused by faulty imaging by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that results in the presence of an invalid volume. To see if this is the problem, go to System in Control Panel and open System Protection. There will be two volumes shown, one of which is selected and named “Missing”. Selecting C:\ and deselecting “Missing” solves the problem.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Community forum. I understand that you get error 800703FA while trying to install KB2310138. Let me help you fix the issue.

    3.      Is the issue confined to this update?

    4.      Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

There issue might occur if there is a mismatch between the definitions file update from the update KB article and the definitions file update from the installed version of Microsoft Security Essentials. Let us try these methods:

    Method 1.

Run a full computer scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is virus free.

To do so: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
