I am using windows 7, 64 bit and have an grey IME box on my desktop that will not close.  Limited advice on how to do this.  There is no closing "x" in upper right corner.  Right has a "close ime" when clicked becomes "open ime" but nothing other than that changes.

If you place the cursor inside the 'text box' and then hit Alt + F4...that should close it. Make sure you are inside the text box area otherwise you might end up closing another window by accident. I have no idea how I keep activating the box but Alt + F4 closes it or me.

    Cheers

I should also add that you might need to select the option 'open IME' before you place the cursor in the text box and try the Alt+F4 option. I almost shut down my device :)

I am using Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit on a Dell XPS 12 (flip screen) and have an white IME box/rectangle on my desktop that will not close, but I can drag it around the desktop. Zero advice what to do with this online that I've found. I only have US English installed as the language. Right has a "close ime" when clicked becomes "open ime" but nothing other than that changes. Any help would be great!

    Hi David,

    1. Are you referring to Input Method Editor(IME)?
    2. Did you install any IME recently?

Place the computer in clean boot and check if it works.

To help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

**How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8******

Note: Check the title “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” for reverting to normal mode.

    Have a Nice Day!
