After a recent Windows 7 Pro update, I get this error message when syncing a folder pair using SyncToy 2.1:

Exception during preview: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID{C201C012-C929-4D72-B9C5-341D48630630} failed due to the following error: 8007007e.

I have uninstall and reinstalled the program to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Rich,

If the System Update Readiness Tool does not correct the problem, you'll need to repair Windows.

CheckSur run.  Looking at the log, I got this:

    Summary:

    Seconds executed: 1655

     Found 28 errors

CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 26

CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 2

Most of the payload files are jpgs, wav files or other media samples. However, I also saw desktop.ini and SampleRes.dll in the list.

    The corrupt MUM files are:

CBS MUM Corrupt 0x00000000 servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~10.2.9200.16437.mum  Expected file name Microsoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~neutral10.2.9200.16437.mum does not match the actual file name

I have noted that I ran SFC/Scannow as Administrator. In the command window, it indicated that it fixed some issues but could not fix them all. It then referred me to the CBS.log, which contained hundreds, if not thousands of lines of output. Most of it Greek to me.

I will run CheckSur per your advice and let you know.

    Rich,

    Re: 8007007E = FileNotFoundException

The solution is in the error message "...FileNotFoundException" means there is a file missing, that is, one of the files your program depends on is not deployed.

Run SFC /Scannow to make sure there is no system corruption.

Run CheckSUR to verify there are no system packages that have become damaged.

A repair install is the usual solution of (Checksur.exe) doesn't work.

If the System Update Readiness Tool does not correct the problem, you'll need to repair Windows.

Note: It may take an hour or longer to detect and replace the incorrect data, please be patient. When it is finished, please restart the computer and run Windows Update again.

Try resetting the windows update components and check if you are able to install.

You can reset the windows update components by referring to the article:

How do I reset Windows Update components?

Restart afterwards and see if the updates download now
