System config not responding

I am running windows 7 and decided to try and solve slow running and ( not responding) messages on programmes. I started to perform a clean boot but when I had made the changes to the system configuration window and clicked OK the title bar said (not responding) After waiting a considerable amount of time I false quit. When I go back to system config window nothing has changed but now my PC just keeps hanging in system config window. The computer is now worse than when I started. I hadn't done anything before.

The first thing I would recommend is to roll back and half-fulfilled changes that were made with the System Restore utility. First save any open documents and close all programs then click Start (or tap the Windows key) and type s ·y ·s ·t ·e ·m r ·e ·s ·t ·o ·r ·e then choose System Restore from the Programs section of the list above. When System Restore starts, click Next and pick the most recent restore point that is prior to your attempt to create a clean boot environment. Follow the remainder of the steps in this article.

Restore system files and settings

After you've recovered your computer to its state prior to the attempt to establish a clean boot environment, begin with a malware scan using a free anti-malware scanning utility like MalwareBytes

It come in standard offerings of free and pay-for versions. For stand-alone scans and malware removal (but not real-time scanning), the free version is usually more than sufficient.
