I'm getting error code 80242014 for the update kb2919355 for Windows 8.1. On the restart, updates get to 99% then fails to update and reverts the changes. It's really starting to annoy me as I've tried to install this update now for the last month and the same thing happens over and over again. I've tried clean boot, doesn't do anything, Windows update troubleshooter has not worked and I have also done command prompt for sfc/scannow and comes up with corrupt files but was unable to fix and not to mention I've tried mostly everything relating to this update on these forums and have not had any fixes to this problem. Im running an Asus x501A with intel Pentium CPU2020M @2.40 GHz, 4 GB of ram with a 64-bit operating system and x64 based processor. Im starting to get really annoyed with these Windows 8 problems. Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on with this update/ or my computer? Also, for Windows update, everytime I reboot my computer, its saying the system has never checked for updates even though I have installed other updates on this computer perfectly fine, its just kb2919355 with the error code 80242014 wants to be a pain! Also, I am getting error code 8024A000 when I try and search for new updates, then hit the try again button and it works but still won't let me install update kb2919355 and get the same windows update error all over again

    Hi,

Microsoft security essential is also known as Windows Defender, which is a inbuilt application of Windows 8 Operating System.

Rest the Windows Update components, restart the computer, and install the Windows update and check

    Hi Chris,

Please answer the following questions to know more about the issue you are facing.

    1. Do you use a 3^rd^ party antivirus application?
    2. Are other Windows Updates installing without any issue?

Error code 80242014 indicates that the system needs to be restarted to allow the files in use to be updated. There is a strong possibility that 3rd party software is interfering with the files being updated. Keep the computer in a clean boot status, install the Updates and check if it helps.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please refer to the section: “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

If the issue still persists, reset the Windows Update components and check if it helps.

Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) in case problems occur.

Method 3**:** If you are using third party security software, disable third party security software, install the Updates and check if it helps.

    Disable third-party Security Software.

    a. You should see an icon for your Antivirus program in the Task-bar notification area. It is usually at the bottom right corner of your desktop.

    b. Click on the third-party Security Software Icon, you will see a pop up.

    c. In that pop and select the option to disable, click on it.

    d. Now the third-party Security Software will be disabled.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this helps. Please do let us know if you need further help, we’ll be happy to assist you.

no I do not use a third party anti-virus and other windows updates are installing without a problem, just kb2919355 will not update. I tried a clean boot and that did not work as well. thanks for you help though! One other thing, my computer is also saying that Microsoft security essentials is installed on the computer but when I go to uninstall it, mse does not show up with the other installed apps, I was thinking this might be causing the problem but I am not sure. I bought the computer with windows 8 already installed so I don't know why mse would be showing up
