I've tried resetting and all the other suggestions that are out there. As with everyone else, none of the suggestions work. The commonality between all the reported cases is Windows 8.1. So please, don't respond with canned troubleshooting replies just so you can score community points.

Some of what I've tried:

I have exactly the same problem and tried "everything" without success. I would really appreciate any hint to get this issue fixed.

As a temporary solution I have used WSUS Offline Update 8.8 (http://download.wsusoffline.net/) and successfully installed updates.

I have tried the Clean Boot approach, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135, with no success.

I have even tried using Safe Mode with no success.

    Hi,

We appreciate that you have tried performing few troubleshooting steps. Windows update troubleshooter found some corrupt files on your computer. First we will try to repair them by running SFC scan.

I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below:

Method 1: Run System File Checker tool and then check if you can install updates.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

If the above method does not work, go to next method.

Method 2: If you are using any third-party antivirus software, you may disable it and check you can install updates.

You may refer to the antivirus maker website to check for the options to disable antivirus.

Note: Even if you disable third party antivirus, Defender will still be running in the computer. This will guard your computer from malware and virus.

If the above method does not work, go to next method.

Method 2: Disable Windows firewall and check.

    a. Hover the mouse to the right hand top corner and click on search and type Windows firewall and click on settings

    b. Click on windows Firewall

    c. Click on turn firewall on or off at the left hand pane

    d. Check the option to turn off the firewall.

Note: Repeat the steps for public and private network settings.

After checking with the issue, enable Firewall.

Hope the information provided is useful. If the issue persists, reply here and we will be glad to help you.
