Every now and then there would pop up 'Do you want to open or save bk-coretag.js from tags bkrtx.com?" and my tab would just freeze or reopen.

It seems like a virus, but I'm unsure, and if it is, how do I get rid of it? Thank you beforehand :)

That's some sort of Java Script popup.

Does it only appear when you have accessed a specific webpage or is it random?

Do you still use Java?  If so suggest you uninstall Java or be sure you update Java to the newest version and make sure any old versions of Java have been removed from Control Panel.
