Windows Update Error code 80004005.

Question

Hello...I am running Windows 7 64bit and am getting installation errors everytime I try to download and apply updates.  I am also getting messages stating that Windows installer is not working properly.  Originally came to the community here looking for help resolving error code 80004005 and came across a post explaining to another user that they needed to run a Windows Update Readiness tool which outputs a log file showing any errors that may exist.  I ran this tool and the results are posted below.  It would appear that I have many many issues.  Any chance there might be a somewhat easy fix for this or would i be better off just re-installing Windows?

Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer.

1. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK .
2. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK .

Hi Deborah,

Try these and check.

Check if the Windows installer service is running on the computer.

a) Click on  Start click on  Run  type services.msc and press on Enter button

b) Double-click on the service named "Windows Installer"

c) Check the value in the "Startup type” field. Make sure that the service is started and set to Automatic.

You can also try this:

Rest the Windows Update components, restart the computer, install the Windows updates and check

Thank you for the response.  Per your instructions I did run the sfc /scannow and received the message at the end of the scan that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. What is my next step?
