Error message: "Message could not be displayed WLM encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again."

Original title: GMan

When I open WLM, the inbox contains messages and what looks like an open folder with no information. If I click on this "empty" folder, it momentarily shows the from and subject information from an email message above it. This is quickly replaced by "Message could not be displayed WLM encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again." If I try to delete this "empty" folder, a box pops up with "The selected messages could not be copied to this folder". How can I remove this message or messages?

I am having the same problem.

It doesn't sound like it, from your description.

Jet Error -1811 ... File not found

Have you perhaps moved your store folder from its default location? The instructions won't work if you have.

    esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Mail.MSMessageStore"

This solution has been posted dozens of times, but so far as I'm aware not once has it solved the problem. It doesn't repair the file mentioned (that takes a different set of commands), and many of those who try it find that the program won't start at all after completing it.

Rather than tacking a question on at the end of an old thread, it would be much better if you used theAsk a question option on the Participate menu on this page to start your own thread about your problem. Please give as many details as you can about what's going wrong, and be sure to give your program version and your operating system when you do. You can see the program version by pressing Alt-F B when viewing your inbox.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your issue in Microsoft Community Forum.

I see that your having issue in opening emails on Windows Live Mail. Let me help you with that. For us to troubleshoot your issue, kindly repair the Mail.MsMessageStore file. Follow the steps below to do this.

    1. Restart the computer (this is to ensure that Live Mail is fully shut down, and that none of its components are in use when the computer starts)
    2. Click Start, type CMD but do not press enter
    3. You will see cmd.exe in the search results, right click on it and select Run as Administrator - type your admin password if asked, and if UAC pops up asking premission, allow it
    4. You should now see the command prompt, with the following displayed:

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32>

    1. Copy the following (Ctrl+C).

    esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Mail.MSMessageStore"

    Note: the "" are necessary.

    1. Right click in the command prompt Window, and select Paste, so you now see the following:

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32>esentutl.exe -d "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Mail.MSMessageStore"

    1. Press enter. esentutl will now defragment the Live Mail database file
    2. Once done, you can close the command prompt, and restart the PC again

Your cooperation on this matter will be highly appreciated. I'll look forward to your reply.

    Thank you.

I don't know where the command prompt is ...

Thank both of you for your help. I did access WLM and check for emails stuck in the outbox while offline.

There were none, but there was one in the deleted folder which did not display and could not be deleted. After removing and re-configuring the account, I was able to delete this email. So far, WLM is working as it should.

Thank you so much for your response. Before I followed your steps, I opened WLM to make sure things had not changed.  It seems that the message that I wanted to delete and that could not be displayed was no longer there. However, WLM is now terminating with 2 of 3 tasks completed with this message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Triad.rr  (1) account. Header download for the 'Deleted Items' folder did not complete. Could not download new messages from the IMAP server.

Server Response: The server did not respond to this IMAP command before the connection was terminated.

    Server: 'mail.twc.com'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F

    Protocol: IMAP

    Port: 143

    Secure(SSL): No

If I try to open the Deleted items folder, the result is Could not download new messages from IMAP server.

Should I proceed with your solution? I don't know that it makes a difference, but I am running Windows 8.1.
