Original title: Still cannot download and applty updates

Windows 8.

I've done everything suggested and have spent at least 15 hours searching this site for help.  What I see is lots and lots of people having the same problem, and Microsoft has no solutions unless you're already an EE.

8020002E.  Every time.  Please help.

    Hi,

    Thank you for the reply.

    Refer to the following link and check.

    An update is available to update the digital signature on the files that are produced by Microsoft in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you sir!  I continued to browse the help and support, and learned that 8020002E is caused when the download is interrupted.  This makes sense because I did get disconnected several times while trying to do the updates due to restrictions on the public WiFi.

    I don't know if this was the "magic" fix, but here is what he told the other poster to do:

    1.  Stop Windows Update service using services.msc;

    2.  Delete Temp Update files in Windows/Software Distribution/Data Store - delete all files;

           then go back to Software Distribution/Download - delete all files.

    3.  Start the Windows Update service again.

    However, I decided to take a different route as time is getting critical: I used Windows Update just to look up the KB numbers of all the updates I needed, then went to MS Downloads, downloaded and saved them, and ran them in date order.  All seems to be OK now - except I cannot find 2769166 for .Net 3.5 published 12/12/12.  I cannot find it online and the Update service can't find it either.  Can you advise me on that?

    Hi,

    1.      Are you facing this issue with all Windows Updates?

    2.      Are you using a 3^rd^ party antivirus application on your computer?

    3.      What are troubleshooting methods you have tried?

    Refer to the following methods and check. Please ignore the methods you have tried.

    Method 1:

    Run the Windows Update troubleshooter; refer the following link to know more about Windows Update troubleshooter.

    Troubleshoot problems with installing updates.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates

    Method 2:

    If you are using a 3rd party Security Software , disable third-party Security Software and check the issue status.

    a) On your Computer screen Task Bar next to System Clock.

    b) You will see the third-party Security Software Icon.

    c) Click on the third-party Security Software Icon, you will see a pop up.

    d) In that pop and select the option to disable, click on it.

    e) Now the third-party Security Software will be disabled.

    Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 3:

    Run the DISM tool. Refer to the “Run the DISM tool” section from the following link ( Ignore the link title )
