Another program is preventing Windows Essentials from installing. (2012)

Question

Hi,

Yesterday Windows tried to update Windows Essentials but I got the above message.

I went to the web and tried to install manually 5 times to no avail.

It keeps telling me "another program is preventing Windows Essentials for installing. Wait for the other program to install and then try again.

There isn't any other program installing, I have triple checked this.

Can anyone help please?

The link does not provide info on finding log files for Windows Essentials 2012 on my 8.1 computer.

Can you explain how to get the log files?

Also, where have you enabled the private message area?

To determine why you're encountering this issue, kindly provide us the log files for Windows Essentials Installer. I am struggling with this as well.

I have done what you have suggested to no avail.

Additionally I have done other things suggested by Microsoft Support guys, including but not limited to the following and a number of times each but to no avail.

Windows update

Clean Un-install of Live Essentials 2011

Manual uninstall via Program Files and Program Files (x86)

Tried installing all of Essentials 2012, then tried installing one components at a time, etc etc.

It always hangs up at 34% no matter what I do.

Pretty frustrating!

Welcome to Microsoft Community. Our apologies for the delayed response. I'd be glad to assist you with the issue wherein you are getting an error when you try to install Windows Live Essentials.

Firstly, we would like you to re-install your Windows Essentials. To do this, you can follow the steps below:

Note: Since you are using Windows Mail, please save them on a safe folder as you will delete folders that is included within Windows Essentials. To know how to import and export e-mails, please check this **link**.

1. Perform **Windows Update**

2. Uninstall Essentials by following the steps within this **link**.

**3.******Delete the following files for a clean installation:

For 32 bit

    C:\Program Files\Windows Live

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live

For 64 bit

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Windows Live

    C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Windows Live

**4.******Disable firewall (Note that disabling the firewall makes your computer prone to virus attack. We suggest that you only visit the websites below and enable your firewall after installation is done).

**5.******Reset browser to factory settings.

**6.******Reinstall Windows Essentials:

Windows Essentials 2012****(for Windows 7 and Windows 8)

Windows Essentials 2011 (for Windows Vista and Windows 7)

**Note:**Please read the system requirements before installing Windows Essentials 2012.

I still have the issue.
