The Local Users and Groups snap-in is missing from the MMC in my W7 Ultimate installation. Can I download it from MS?

    Method 1 How to Enable the Local Users and Groups MMC Snap-in

    1. Open Notepad by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Notepad, and then, in the list of results, click Notepad.
    2. Copy and paste the content given below in the notepad.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\MMC{5D6179C8-17EC-11D1-9AA9-00C04FD8FE93}] "Restrict_Run"=dword:00000000

    1. Click on Save, and save in name snapin.reg file to the desktop.
    2. Right click on the saved .reg file and click on Merge.
    3. Click on Run, Yes, Yes, and OK when prompted.
    4. Restart the computer.

    Now check the issue.

    Method 2 If the above steps does not work follow the steps given below.

    Method 3 Try to enable Local Users and Groups in Group Policy

    1. Open the all users, specific users or groups, or all users except administrators Local Group Policy Editor for how you want this policy applied.

    2.In the left pane, click on to expand User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Microsoft Mangement Console, and Restricted/Permitted snap-ins.

    1. In the right pane, right click on Local Users and Groups and click on Edit.
    2. To Enable Local Users and Groups MMC Snap-in  Select (dot) either Not Configured.
    3. To Explicitly Local Users and Groups MMC Snap-in  Select (dot) either Enabled.

    NOTE: This is for if you have enabled the Restrict users to the explicitly permitted list of snap-ins option to only allow the MMC snap-ins with this setting set to open.

    1. Click on OK.
    2. Close the Local Group Policy Editor window.
