When trying to start Windows I get a "Preparing Automatic Repairs" screen and it never does anything and after a few minutes will start continuously beeping. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

This issue might occur due to corrupt drive or bad sectors on the hard drive.

  1. Are you able to boot the computer normally after repair fails?
  2. Do you a secondary hard drive or a different operating system installed apart from Windows operating system on the computer?

I would suggest you to remove all unnecessary devices first (including USB ones as mentioned above) and check whether your system boots up normally and if so, start plugging them back in one-by-one to find the potential culprit.

Please get back to us with the status of this issue.

    Hi,

    Thank you for an update.

Yes, as expected earlier, bad sectors on the hard drive are the cause for the issue.

feel free to ask more queries on Windows.

Thank-you for the response. I am not able to boot the computer normally as it never gets past the repair screen.  I only have one hard drive and no other operating systems installed other than Windows 8.1.  After running a diagnostics check I get a BIOSHD-8 with SMART errors so my hard drive has failed and will be replacing it tomorrow.
