Have done all the usual and still come up empty. All standard navigation to online help pages are no help at all. I need a concrete answer not all this pussy footing around. "Have you tried this?" etc. Obviously nobody knows what the error code is for.

Obviously nobody knows what the error code is for.

If you've got Google, you already know that 80246010 is a mostuncommon error: http://goo.gl/vHnc67 [1]

    Assuming Win8.1 64-bit...

Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting this post:

1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer?

1b. Did the computer come with Win8 (or Win8.1) preinstalled, did you do a clean install of Win8 (or Win8.1), or did you upgrade a (e.g., Win7) computer to Win8?

1c. Assuming you started with Win8 => When (approx. date) was Win8.1 installed?

1d. When (approx. date) did the WindowsUpdate_80246010 error first start?

    1. What is the full name of your currently-installed third-party anti-virus application or security suite (i.e., not Windows Defender!), if any, and when (approx. date) does your current subscription(if any) expire?
    2. What third-party anti-malware applications (i.e., not Windows Defender!) are installed, if any?  What third-party firewall, if any?
    3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?
    4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [pick one] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

    6a. Is KB2919355, KB2953522, KB2926765, KB2957151 and/or KB2939153 listed in Installed Updates (not Update History)? [2]

    6b. If not, is KB2961851, KB2962123, KB2957151, KB2939153; KB2925418 and/or KB2922229 listed inInstalled Updates?

7a. What Update Version & KB number are displayed in the second line of text in IE11's Help | About [Alt+H+A] tab; e.g., Update Version: 11.0.54 (KB1231231) ?

7b. Is Firefox, Chrome or any other alternate browser installed?

    1. Is Adobe Flash Player v13.0.0.214 for Internet Explorer installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    2. Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; Glary Utilities; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced System Optimizer; CCleaner's Registry Cleaner component)?

Hi, I started receiving this error when attempting to install a definition update today and was wondering if anyone had answers. In response to the above post:

1a.-1d. The computer is one I built almost 2 years ago but just yesterday did a clean re-installation of Win 8.1 Pro x64.

    1. I only use Win Defender.
    2. Same as above.
    3. No. (I hate that junk)
    4. No.

    6a. KB2919355 and KB2926765 are installed.

    6b. KB2961851, KB2962123, KB2925418 and KB2922229 are installed (If that matters).

    7a. Update 11.0.15 KB3008923.

    7b. Chrome is installed.

    1. No, showing v16.0.0.235 installed.
    2. I use CCleaner's registry cleaner.

I hope I answered everything in adequacy, thank you for your time.
