"Hello, I have windows 7 premium.  I believe there may be a bug that needs looking into, my system goes to sleep while there's system activity.  For example while downloading a file, doing a virus or mail where Scan, or defrag.  I do believe that in the year 2010 are operating systems with the intelligent enough to have the system is active and not go to sleep while these programs are actively running.  Can someone tell me if this is a bug or suggest software to keep the system awake while program " X" is actively running, for example if I'm doing a hard drive defrag, I don't wanna change power options so the computer runs all night long, only for the 2 or 3 hours that the scan is running, once the program finishes defrag'ing the systemit then should wait the set time in power options and shut down."

I have this problem too, However it happens when i'm activly typing....

If your computer shuts down while you are actively typing, then you have a larger concern. Your computer might be overheating, or crashing.  It's going to be unrelated to your power options.

I've split your question into a new conversation.  Can you reply back here and let me know when the problem started happening for you?

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us at Microsoft Community Forum.

Along with questions asked by Shawn (MVP), which will help us in diagnosing the exact cause of the issue, I would recommend that you run Power troubleshooter.

You can run the Power troubleshooter to adjust your computer's power settings. The Power troubleshooter checks things like your computer's timeout settings, which determine how long the computer waits before turning off the monitor display or entering sleep mode.

Refer to the link provided below for information on how to run the Power troubleshooter.

    Open the Power troubleshooter

    Hope this information is helpful.
