I have a screenshot, but do not have an email address to send to.

Perhaps the above heading is adequate description.

I woould like to know the alert message is about,& how to contend wih it.

I realize XP is outdated, but circumstances prevent me from replacing this system at this time.

This machine is well maintained,& protected.  SOME INSIGHT,& HELP APPRECIATED. Regards,Doug

Is there some reason you are not typing in the exact error message that you are seeing?

If you do not tell us the exact error message, we are going to have to try to imagine what the error message really says or check our crystal balls to see what they have to say and then we might think that it could be this or it might be that or it might not be any of the things suggested by the crystal ball.

How hard is it to type in the Reply box what you see on the screen?

    For example:

    Windows No Disk Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6b7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

Exactly what does your error message say?

There will not be a major registry problem if you are careful and follow directions.  It is okay to be nervous about editing the registry but we can make that easier.  For the nervous Nellies, out there here are is another way to make the adjustment:

Before starting to make changes, backup your registry with this free tool (and you can use it again any time you want to):

Before making any changes to your registry, download, install and run ERUNT and back up the registry with this popular free tool:

    http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

Consider making a manual System Restore point too.

Open notepad to create a new text file:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

    notepad

Click OK to open a new notepad file.

Copy and paste the following lines of bold text into the new notepad file:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\windows]

    "ErrorMode"=dword:00000002

Save the new text file with a .reg extension to your desktop or someplace you can remember with a name you can remember, something like:

    fix13.reg

After saving the file, close notepad.

Locate the fix13.reg file on your desktop and double click it.

Alternatively, you can right click the fix13.reg file, choose Open With... and select the Registry Editor.

Respond in the affirmative to the question... Are you sure you want to add the information to the registry?

You should then see a message that the information was successfully entered into the registry.

    Reboot your system and test.

You can remove the fix13.reg file when you are done.

Setting the ErrorMode parameter to 2 stops the pop up message but will still log any hard errors to the Event Viewer log.

Thanks. Opened, but no 'upload' for image, just 'send to'.

Windows XP PRO/SP3.  McAfee Security Center 12,8.958, & McAfee S Scan Plus 3.8.150.1.

The alert appears randomly (1-2 times daily),even when idle.

    "exception processing message+++++++par ameters+++++++++++++++++"

    (spaces contain code).

    Is this helpful? Regards,Doug

If you mean are seeing messages like this:

No Disk, Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 475b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

Some folks think it may have to do with not using the Safely Remove Hardware feature (and that may be), but I never use Safely Remove Hardware with any external USB devices and I do not have this message so if you can't figure it out and other things are working okay, you can tell XP to just not show you that message when there is no reason.

Until you can determine what the "real" problem is with your hardware of unspecified make and model with unspecified XP version and Service Pack, you can disable the pop up message by making a registry adjustment.

There is no undo or quit without saving in the Registry Editor so before making registry changes, backup your registry with this popular free and easy to use tool:

    http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

You may also want to create a manual System Restore point just in case.

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

    regedit

Click OK to open the registry editor and navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows

On the right hand pane, check the value of the ErrorMode parameter.

If the ErrorMode parameter is set to 0, double click ErrorMode and change the value to 2 (2 = disabled).

Click OK to save the changes, then click File, Exit to close the Registry Editor.

Reboot your system and check things now.

Setting the ErrorMode parameter to 2 stops the pop up message but will still log any hard errors to the Event Viewer log.

A screenshot would help, as would a description of what you are doing to cause this error to appear.

Which version of XP do you have (Home, Pro, Media Center) and which Service Pack (none, 1, 2, 3)?

What is the name and version of your antivirus program?

To include a screenshot in your post (either original question or reply), click the "image" icon in the toolbar, browse to the location where you saved the screenshot, select it, click "Open," and then click "Upload."
