I have 2TB hard disk(HD) and a 750GB HD. Note the 2TB holds my important data and it is completely free from viruses. I have unpluged the 2TB and left 750GB pluged. I have made a dual boot hard disk(HD) where by a 750GB Western Digital is splitted into 2 partition, windows 7 and windows 8.1. I managed to ensure both partition boot very well with Bcdedit.

The problem is when i add back the 2TB windows 8.1 does not boot anymore and shows blue screen error: inaccessible_boot_device; and also this error: 0xc0000001 when i try repair. I dont want to format this but i want to force windows 8.1 to see the 2TB HD and boot without a problem. windows 7 boot ok and the 2TB HD is working fine. What should i do?

    Hi Martin,

Thank you for the detailed information. Let's refer to the following suggestion and check the issue status.

The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE frequently occurs because of a boot device failure. During I/O system initialization, the boot device driver might have failed to initialize the boot device (typically a hard disk). File system initialization might have failed because it did not recognize the data on the boot device. Also, repartitioning the system partition or installing a new SCSI adapter or disk controller might induce this error. Refer to the following link and check if that helps.

"INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" error message after you install a third-party ATA-miniport driver or change the SATA mode of the boot drive on Windows 8-based computer.

BIOS Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

You can also try the following method.

The error code: 0xc0000001 indicates that there might be some issues with the booting device or some booting files are corrupted. It might also happen if some problem happens with the boot sector of the computer. I would suggest you to follow these steps.

    a. Boot from the recovery media.

    b. Click on Repair your computer.

    c. Click on Troubleshoot and then select Advanced Options.

    d. Click on Command prompt and type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

    Bootrec /fixmbr

    Bootrec /fixboot

    Bootrec /rebuildbcd

    e. Restart the computer.

Hope this helps. Please do let us know if you need further help.
