    Hi Susan,

Error code 80070002  generally occurs when some files in the update are missing, even though the update is downloaded and extracted successfully.

    1.       Which update are you trying to install?

Follow the steps below to check the update causing the issue:

    • Click on start
    • Open control panel
    • Click on Windows updates
    • In the left panel.click on ‘Update History’.
    • Check against each update, which all failed and what is the error code associated. Also note down the KB number for the failed updates.

    2.       At what stage do you get the error? While downloading the update or while installing it?

    3.       What all troubleshooting steps have you tried till now?

Run the Fixit on the support article : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336

Additionally, Follow the steps provided on the link:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/windows-update-error-80070002

Please let us know if the issue persists. We will be happy to assist you further.

    Hi Susan,

    Method 1

Since all the updates that you provided are security updates.

So firstly disable your Security Software and then try to install your updates.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Method 2

Perform a Clean Boot to see if there is any software conflict as clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts.

Follow the link below to perform clean boot:

“How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8”

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Additionally,Try to download and install the updates manually and check.

Firstly check if your system is a x86 or a x64 based system. Refer to the link : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218/en-us#appliesto

The download links for the updates are provided below:

    For  x86 based system:

    KB2676562 : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29788

    KB2882822: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40371

    For  x64 based system

    KB2676562 : http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=29815

    KB2872339 : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40099

    KB2882822: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40500

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Thank you for the help. I have run the Fixit and followed the steps using the link for the error code.

    Unfortunately the error persists.

I can see that updates have been 'successfully' installed however I keep getting notification of the same three important updates over and over again as though windows does not recognise that they have been installed, or have they?

    They are; KB2676562,  KB2872339  KB2882822

When I open 'windows update' it tells me that updates have never been looked for on this computer.

I can find the updates on 'view update history'However when I go to 'installed updates' I have no updates installed, or so it tells me. It does not list the Hotfix I downloaded and was informed that had been successfully installed.

In short I am getting conflicting messages.

If you have any other suggestions I would be grateful.

    Many thanks.
