Changing "img100.jpg"

Greetings,

Does anyone know how to change the "img100.jpg" that is used as a background for the Surface Pro 2?

I found what I think is the location here on my Pro 2.... C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-themeui-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_5e0193cc292e9611

I have tried every trick I know to swap out the default pic to one that I would like but I keep getting a note that I "require permission from the trustedinstaller to make changes.

I really do not like this pic and would love to be able to have one of my choosing displayed.

Thanks!

Kyle

You don't need to do that.  Just locate a picture you want and copy it to "Pictures" and then right click on it and select "Set as Background".

Any picture can be set as the background image.  On the START screen, that is different.  There, you open the Charms Bar menu and select "Personalize".  The last image in that particular selection category is to mirror the image on both Desktop and START screen.  Other than that, the other images are fixed.

In fact, this was capable on all versions of Windows.

Okay, you are talking about the one that is not assigned to any account.  However, that lock screen is configured by the primary administrator account.

Since you cannot change it in a normal fashion, do a search for that image file name (complete with extension) and it should be within the Windows folder on Drive C:.

If you locate it, write down the location of that image and then copy the image you want to it but make sure you use the exact same name (also same JPG format).

Windows can be particular when making those types of changes and the image has to be the exact same resolution and screen aspect ratio.  If you deviate from that, the system can come up with just a black screen and no background image.

Do remember that if you perform a RESET in the future, it will revert back to the original image and you will have to do it again.

Always remember: "SEARCH".  It will locate just about anything to include anything in hidden folders.

    Thanks for the reply James.

I guess I did not describe my situation well enough.

On my surface I have three login accounts and each one has a custom lock screen and the picture will show if the screen is locked while one of the three accounts is logged in.

If all three accounts are signed out then the lock screen shows the img100.jpg image. This is the one I want to change, when all accounts are logged out.

    Cheers!

    Kyle
