    Vijay,

I ran the update readiness tool and this enabled some update to complete.

However, some update failed with a code that required to run setup from the master dvd. I do not have this as I have a recovery partition on my hard drive.

I rebuilt the system and all is now up to date.

Thanks for trying to help me.

    Regards,

    Bill Shanks.

    Hi,

I would suggest you to try the steps from the following link:

Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2**http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997**

Note: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article:*Back up the registry in Windows Vista*

Note: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-your-files

    Hope this helps!

    Vijay,

All other updates released in the last week loaded OK.

The error message occurs after the update says it is 100% complete i.e. just in the final stages.

Methods 1 and 2 have not worked.

I have yet to attempt method 3 but I will update after I have tried it.

    Thanks.

Please find log on trying to load KB2882822

    Hi,

    1.    Were there any changes or updates made on the computer?

    2.    When exactly do you get the error message?

    Method 1:

Run the troubleshooter and check if it resolves the issue.

    Open the Windows Update troubleshooter

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Try to install updates in clean boot mode.

Install Windows updates in Windows 7

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Install-Windows-updates

Also, see the section on how to return your computer to a Normal startup mode from clean boot by following the steps under “Reset the computer to start as usual”.

    Method 3:

Refer the article and try to reset the Windows update components manually and check if it helps.

How do I reset Windows Update components?
