OneDrive Sync when not signed in

I'm looking at using OneDrive for a business application where OneDrive will be used to share files between systems that use an automated procedure to process, send, and receive files via OneDrive. The application is run via Task Scheduler whether the user is logged in or not.

My question is: Will OneDrive sync work in this scenario? Or does the user have to be logged on in order for OneDrive to sync files?

The OneDrive client will not sync files if the user is logged off.
