so I just now started minecraft and all of a sudden out of nowhere a security alert said Javaw.exe wanted to be cleared through the firewall, cautious as i am i naturally pressed cancel, however the game still runs fine i should also point out this is the first time I have seen this message and I was wondering if this is a legit message from the OS or if this could be some badstuff

Hope someone will get  back to me soon

I doubt you have anything to worry about, it was very likely just the Java auto-updater checking (it checks ever month or week).  So what you probably declined was just said "no" to allowing it to reach out to the server.  No harm in that, you can still update Java on your own anytime at www.java.com.
