I am very new to the configuration manager and our sccm client and was tasked with following these steps setup intune for laptop deployment.

I'd like some advice on how to do these steps and if there's any danger of breaking things when doing them

Prerequisites for Authority reset from SCCM to Intune

· Retire all Modern Devices (mobile devices) from within the Configuration Manager Console. It is important that you do not attempt to retire a device from the device itself for this procedure to be executed.

· Remove all users from the Intune User Group. Point the Intune Subscription to an empty user collection, or, remove all users from the targeted collection. and confirm in the CloudUserSync.log that users are removed.

· Uncheck the iOS platform to purge the APNs certificate.

· Delete any and all published applications that are for MDM Devices.

· Delete any and all polices that are for MDM Devices.

· Remove the Windows Intune Connector from within the Configuration Manager Console (only applicable to R2 SP1 or below)

· Remove the Intune subscription by right-clicking the subscription and selecting Delete.

· Restart the SMS Executive Service

· Provide us some example users so we can verify the CM licenses get removed after the process completes

The process for Authority resets can take up to 3 business days, but typically occur within 1 day.

thank you for helping.

Sorry, it's unclear what you are trying to accomplish here. Are you saying that your current MDM authority in Intune is configured for ConfigMgr (aka SCCM) and you need to get this changed?

If so, there is zero danger here as the functionality to enable ConfigMgr as the MDM authority was removed from the product 2+ years ago so hasn't functioned in that long either.

Are you sure that your MDM authority is set to ConfigMgr though? Keep in mind that for a new Intune subscription, this is not possible and can only the the result of a configuration made to your Intune subscription multiple years ago.

Instead, are you looking to configure Autopilot (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/autopilot/windows-autopilot)?

@Mitch T , From your description, it seems you want to change hybrid MDM authority to intune on Azure. if there's any misunderstanding, feel free to let us know.

Based on my research, hybrid MDM is deprecated on August 14, 2018. We can see more details int he following link:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/mdm/understand/what-happened-to-hybrid

We can move from Hybrid Mobile Device Management to Intune on Azure. More details int he following link:
    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/intune-customer-success/move-from-hybrid-mobile-device-management-to-intune-on-azure/ba-p/280150

If we want to change SCCM MDM authority to intune standalone, we can also refer to the following link:
    https://systemcenterdudes.com/sccm-mdm-authority-intune-standalone/
Note: Non-Microsoft link, just for the reference.

    Hope it can help.
