Network And Sharing Center - Server Execution failed

Anonymous
2015-04-10T09:20:30+00:00

Until recently my laptop was running fine, then suddenly the Network and Sharing Center will not open properly. It hangs for quite sometime then say Unknown with Server execution failed. It wont allow me to access any of the network adapters.

I can still use the Ethernet connection, but I can not change the wireless adapter.

I have tried several solutions that were for vista, including adding administrators to the local service.

The laptop hasn't had any new software installed recently.

Running Windows 8.1 64 bit , AVG2015 virus checker.

Does any one know of a solution to this issue.

Hello Paul,

Thank you for keeping us updated and apologies for late response.

I would suggest you to follow the steps below and let us know the result.

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode with command prompt

To do this:

a. When you hit the power button in Windows 8.1 (through Charms Bar), hold down the Shift key when clicking the Restart button.

b. The next screen will present you with three options. Click Troubleshoot.

c. Next, hit Advanced options followed by Windows Startup Settings from the next screen.

d. Your PC will now be rebooted to enable the advanced parameters, which include Safe Mode as well. Once it restarts, you’ll get nine options whereby the following commands apply:

  • F4 for Safe Mode
  • F5 for Safe Mode with Networking
  • F6 for Safe Mode with Command Prompt

**Step 2:**Run the following command

At the Safe Mode command prompt type the following command and press Enter

net localgroup "Administrators" "Local Service" /add

Note: Put space after every word/command.

You should see a "The command completed successfully" message.

Type Exit and press Enter

Restart the computer in normal mode and check the status of Network and Sharing Center.

Hope this helps. Kindly let us know the update.

Thanks for your reply, but you are not understanding the problem. I have internet access on the wired connection.

however I can not edit any of the network settings on either the wired or wireless connection as the network and sharing center is NOT OPENING PROPERLY.

It does NOT show any adapter settings.

I have attached a picture of what the Network and Sharing Center is showing.

As you can see, I can not change the adapter settings, but there are there in the device manager. I have tried uninstalling them from device manager and resinstalling, but it made no difference.

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

Can’t connect to a wireless network

Thanks for your reply. However your suggestions don't work for the following reasons.

    Method 1

The trouble shooter does not find anything wrong

    Method 2

I cant get to the network settings because of the network and sharing center giving the server execution error. No network adapters are shown even though they are in the device manager

    Method 3

The firewall is disabled as I use the machine for software development. There is a company firewall that blocks all incoming and monitors all external. I know this as I am the one responsible for it.

    Method 4

I have all ready tried this before posting on the forum.

I have also tried uninstalling the wired and wireless drivers then reinstalling. This has had no effect.

    Regards

    Paul Cole

    Hello Paul,

Thank you for providing us the opportunity to assist you.

As per the issue description you are able to connect to internet with wired connection but unable to connect wirelessly. In addition to that you are unable to open Network And Sharing Center.

The reason behind your issue may be the drivers if they are not updated or get corrupted. Issue may be caused if some settings get corrupted or changed. Security software may also restrict it to change the settings. So try to follow the methods provided below and see if it helps.

    Method 1

First, I would suggest you to run Windows in-built network troubleshooter to get the problem automatically detected and fixed. Try to run the troubleshooter which will disable and re-enable the adapter and try some other common repairs, and if issue persist try other steps mentioned in the article and see if it brings any changes.

How do I fix network adapter problems?

    Method 2

If issue still persists try to follow the steps provided in the following article and see if it helps.

If you have recently used a wireless setting in which you had a static IP address assigned for your DNS server, for your ISP service, for example, you must reset your configuration to allow the IP address to be obtained "automatically"

Windows + X > Control Panel > icon view > Network and Sharing Center >Change Adapter Settings >

    Right-Click on your Wireless "Wi-Fi" > Properties >

In "This connection uses the following items", Scroll down to

Click on  Internet Protocol Internet Version 4 (TCP/IP/IPv4)

Properties > CHECK "Obtain an IP address automatically" > OK

    Method 3

If issue still persists, I would suggest you to change the security firewall settings or disable security software temporarily on the system and try to access the location.

    Disable anti-virus ****

NoteAntivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope the information provided is helpful. Do let us know if you have any queries related to Windows, we will be happy to assist you.

    Regards,
