I've been having issues for a while with windows updates not being able to install and then undoing the changes. So I used the troubeshooter and it came up with some possible errors said it fixed them and should restart my PC which I did.
Now cannot check for windows updates or use the windows update troubleshooter I just get the error message 8024419. Tried rebooting but still same.
Can anyone help me please? All the other posts seem to be about windows Vista or 7 not 8.1.
I'm not very PC literate and don't understand some of the techy responses so simple instructions please!

I've tried running Microsoft security scan and my own security software scan but no issues found.
The troubleshoot problems pages have not been any help as I can't get the updates area to work at all it just keeps giving same error message.
If I click check for updates in the Control panel Windows update area it displays a red cross image with the message:
Windows could not search for new updates. There was a problem checking for updates. Error(s) found: Code 80244019 Windows ran into a problem'
Most recent check for errors: Never
Updates were installed: Never
You receive updates: For Windows only
If I then click on 'get help with this error' it just opens the link you sent me. The history of any updates has also disappeared.
If I use the Windows update trouble shooter the following message appears:
An unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue
Error details

I am only getting it on the Windows 10 upgrade download.
I rebooted my laptop when I got this error, went back into Windows updates and found it was listing a number of optional Windows 8.1 updates and an important .Net update. I was able to download and install these with no problem. Thinking that installing these may have resolved the issue I restarted the download of Windows 10 only to get the same error.

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.
If you receive this error while downloading updates, the most common cause is a computer virus that has turned off Windows Update, or another service on your computer that is needed by Windows Update. I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if this helps:
Method 1: Restart in Safe Mode and run virus scan using Microsoft Safety Scanner, which would help us to get rid of virus, spyware, and other malicious software.
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.
Refer to the link below on how to enable Safe Mode:

Method 2: Refer to the link below on how to troubleshoot problems with Windows Updates:

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.
