As Gerry suggested, I did the System File Checker (SFC /scannow).  After it completed, I reran Windows Update which required a reboot and now the windows updates were successful (see screenshot).  I personally didn't do chkdsk (but plan to later).

The only other thing I did (and I doubt this had any affect), I uninstalled Zune...just FYI.

    Thanks Gerry.

Hello Gerry, I can't get your process working for me. Entered all field in the "Command Prompt" and verify there are corrupted files. But correcting the problem I can't get to work. I tried downloading "Microsoft Security Essential" and there is a problem downloading it.

I just recently upgrade my O/S from Windows Vista OEM, Home Premium 32-Bit to Windows 7 OEM Home Premium 32-Bit. I have Automatic Update turned on.

How do I get these corrupted files corrected.

0x800706F7     RPC_X_Bad_Stub_Data            This can occur after a control selfupdate that has not fully completed and requires a reboot. The controls may need to be reregistered.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator from the drop down menu.. Type *cd* and press ENTER. Type "chkdsk c: /r" without the quotes and hit ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked whether you wish to run chkdsk on restarting the computer. Type exit, press the ENTER key and restart the computer.

Please run System File Checker and say if it cannot fix corrupted files:

A common cause for these mismatches is a faulty Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver

Download and install the latest version from...

Please run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool again in normal mode and copy and paste the results in a reply for further analysis:
