left mouse button not working

I have Windows 8.1 and the left mouse button does not work, sometimes when I boot it works for about 2 minutes, very rarely. I have a xornet gaming mouse and have tried other mouses but the problem is the same. Only the left button on the touch pad on my laptop works. I have changed the delay to no delay always on but this makes no difference. The right mouse button always works and have changed that to my primary mouse button atm.  But I want to play some games that require both buttons to work.

Any help please?

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description, it seems that the issue is with the drivers of your computer. I appreciate for the troubleshooting you have done so far.

To understand the issue correctly, I want to know:

  1. What is the make and model of your computer?
  2. Did you make and changes on your computer prior to this issue?
  3. Did you try connecting the gaming mouse to a different computer? What was the result?

To fix the issue, I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.

It checks for common issues and makes sure that any new device or hardware attached to your laptop was installed correctly.

a) Press the ‘Windows + C’ to activate the charms menu or move the mouse pointer to bottom right corner of the screen and you will get the charms menu.

b) Click on ‘search’ and select ‘settings’ and type ‘**Troubleshooting’**and select ‘troubleshooting’.

c) Click on ‘Hardware and Sound’ and select ‘**Hardware and Devices’**and click on next to run the troubleshooter.

After running the troubleshooter check if the issue persists, if yes, please proceed with method 2.

Method 2: Change the mouse settings and check if it helps.

a. Press Windows key + R key.

b. Type Control and click Ok.

c. Click on mouse and Click the Buttons tab, and then do any of the following:

d. Swap the functions of the right and left mouse buttons, under Button configuration, select the Switch primary and secondary buttons check box and check if the left mouse button works.

If method 2 doesn’t help, please try method 3.

Method 3: Update the latest Mouse drivers.

Visit mouse manufacturer website and install the latest mouse drivers for Windows 8.1.

Click on Downloads option on the website and download and install the latest drivers and check if it helps

Please let us know the status of the issue after trying the above methods.

Thank you.
