I sent a number of files to be in a "compressed .zip file" and when it was done, I got an error message that I needed to change the permissions for the folder. How do I do this?

Hi Many,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Community.

I understand that you have an issue with Zipping files in File Explorer.

I request you to follow the steps which is mentioned in link below,

 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/zip-unzip-files

For changing permissions for folder. I request to perform the methods which I have listed below.

Method 1: Change folder permission via properties.

1. Open file manager, right click the folder and select Properties in the menu, as exhibited in the following picture.

2. In the Properties window of the folder, select Security on the top and click Edit to continue.

3. Make changes to the folder permissions.

4. As the Permissions window emerges, choose the user or group which the folder permissions are appointed to in the list, change the permissions in the Allow and Deny lines, and then click OK.

Method 2: Change folder permissions in Advanced Security.

1. Select the Folder (or open it), click Share on the menu bar and choose Advanced security to open Advanced Security Settings, as the following photo shows.

2. When the Advanced Security Settings window opens, click Change permissions.

3. Choose Add to move to the next step.

4. Click Select a principal in the Permission Entry

5. In the Select User or Group window, enter the user or group name and then click OK.

6. Change the permissions in the basic permissions. After that, tap OK to finish the changes.

Besides in the sixth step you are able to do two more things.

They are:

Change the type of permissions.

• In the Permission Entry window, click the down arrow beside Type and select a type from Allow or Deny.

Alter the application scope of permissions.

• In the same window, tap the down arrow beside Apply to, and choose an application range from This folder only, This folder, subfolders and files, This folder and subfolders, This folder and files, Subfolder and files only, Subfolders onlyand Files only.

Hope this information helps you. If this issue persists reply us with results to assist you better.
