Autoplay - missing option

New installation of Windows 7 Home Premium:

When I insert a CD, the Autoplay dialog box comes up, but there is no option to "Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer" (as there used to be in my previous Windows 7 PC, under the "General options" section of the pop-up). I really want this.

There are several options (Play Audio CD, Open in iTunes etc, and under General options the only option is "Import photos and videos using Dropbox"), but not the one I want!

I've tried altering the Autoplay options via Control Panel, but cannot seen to make the Explorer option appear in the pop-up.

Just to clarify: I want this option to appear in the pop-up, but not have the computer open the CD in Explorer automatically. I can modify or turn off/on Autoplay fine - it's just the key option that is missing.

Any ideas much appreciated!

Thanks.

Go to default programs>Change AutoPlay settings>Reset Defaults

Or choose>Ask me every time down arrow>and click on Open folder to view files using windows explorer

    Hi RonBarker

Many thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, having played with the settings, I still get the same problem intermittently: when a CD is inserted, it will not always give me the option to open files using Explorer. It does do that for some CDs (I think for mixed media), but for music CDs it just gives me lots of other options.

Just to clarify: by altering the defaults I can get Autoplay to *automatically* open any CD inserted using Explorer, but this is not what I want. I want the dialog box to pop up after I open a CD, and to include the "Open files using Windows Explorer" option. So I do want it to "Ask me everytime..." but I want it to offer me certain options.

It seems strange because I've had this set up on other PCs. There must be a link between detecting it's a music CD and deciding what options to offer in the dialog box. Somehow I need to alter this but can't work out how.

    Any other ideas welcome!

    Hi arMarzook,

    Many thanks for your ideas!

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to fix the problem. I tried updating the driver, and resetting autoplay defaults, but no change.

I haven't yet tried a clean OS install as the PC was only set up yesterday, so I doubt there is an issue there and don't want to go through that unless I absolutely have to.

Cheers again for your thoughts, though - much appreciated!

    Mate.

Maybe check the driver for the drive and update it if any available.

other options are reset the defaults for autoplay or perform a clean installation of OS with original MS Windows Disc or ISO through USB.

    Cheers.
