Whenever I press the volume buttons on my laptop keyboard (Volume Up and Volume Down), the volume increases/decreases by 2. Thus, my volumes is never an odd number. Is there any way to make it increase/decrease by 1 and not 2 ?

    I use a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520, running Windows 8.1 Pro

It happens even if I'm not running any media player

It occurs when I'm pressing the volume control keys on my keyboard (Fn+F11/Fn+F12)

This is the overlay where it is displayed

To make my volume an odd number, say 25, I have to use my mouse and use the volume slider in the taskbar

    Hi Ezio,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

As per the screen shot which you have provided it seems that the volume control is associated with some media player. Could you please provide me the details of the media player.

There might be some short cut created on your desktop. If you can find that just right click on that click on properties then click on shortcut tab and under shortcut column select none instead of the function key.

Hope this would help. Do keep us updated about the issue and we will be more than happy to assist you.

    Regards,

    Hello EzioVF,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

    1. What is the make and model of your Laptop?
    2. Does the volume icon and slider in notification area appears correctly?
    3. Were there any changes( hardware or software) made to the computer prior to the issue?
    4. Which media player are you using?
    5. Is the issue specific to one media player only or with all media player?

For now, I would suggest you to check all the Windows Updates and see if they are installed or not. If there are any updates (Recommended or Optional) available then try to install them and see if it helps to fix the issue.

    To check for updates

    1. Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen(or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), tapping or clicking Settings**,** tapping or clicking Change PC settings, and then tapping or clicking Update and recovery.
    2. Tap or click Check now, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updatesfor your PC.
    3. If updates are found, tap or click Install updates.
    4. Read and accept the license terms, and then tap or click Finish if the update requires it.

Note: You might need to restart your PC to finish installing some updates. Save and close all your files and apps before you restart so you don't lose anything.
