Window 8.1 language install problem

I have a loptop which has a original language Russian. When we purchased the device we change the preffered language to English. It has worked fine until we upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the laptop defaulted back to Russian. Every thing I've tried has failed to get the English language back. I've followed KB2910256 to the letter to no avail. From this article I believe the language packs for 8 and 8.1 are different, and need to download the language pack. Any help to get this working will be appreciated. Thanks in advance Milton

    Hello Milton,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

As you have mentioned English is your default language of the computer so there would be no option to install the same language again.

If you still want to install English language you may try to install English UK if you have installed English US on your computer and then check that are you able to install it or not.

Do get back to us with the update and we will be glad to assist you.

    Regards.

    Hi Ramesh

I have been down this path. Windows 8.1 is quite happy to tell me that I've selected the english language as my prefered language and also that it is not available but fails to give the option to download it .. Ah so frustrating!!!

BTW if i try to install another foreign language this seems to work and gives me the option to download it, but this does not for english.

Of cause being stuck in the russian language is no problem for my wife, but  it's a pain for me when I need to use her laptop. BTW she prefers the english desktop....

Seems Microsoft is sooo happy to let you upgrade to 8.1 but only prepared to give you half the tools.. so disappointed.

Where can I go from here??

    Thanks milton

Nothing there that is a help for me. It offers no language related updates.

Why can't it be a simple as "download and install" the 8.1 version language pack. I don't see why this has to be so difficult.

Anyway enough complaining, any other suggustions.

    Thanks Milton

    Hello Milton,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

I totally agree with you Milton that language packs for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 different. After you upgrade to Windows 8.1, language packs that were installed before the upgrade are no longer available. You can still switch to the keyboard layout of the languages that were installed before the upgrade. However, the only available display language is the base language version of the Windows installation.

This issue occurs because Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 have version-specific language packs. When you upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, the operating system reverts to its base language version. After the upgrade is finished, you have to reinstall any language packs that you require.

As per your description you have already tried the troubleshooting steps provided in the KB2910256 knowledge base. So I would request you to follow the suggestion provided by Cyber_Defend_Team replied on August 6, 2014 in the following thread and see if it works for you.
