Windows Update Error Code 800706F7

Question

The last time my laptop (Windows 7 X86) was working ok was 15/03/15 since then I have had these problems.

1. When I try to install updates I keep getting - error code 800706F7
2. All troubleshooting options have stopped working - error code 0x800706F7
3. Defender has stopped working, when I press start it makes an annoying ping sound
4. Connecting my printer to my laptop using a usb lead doesn't work anymore - (Code 43)

I tried restoring to an earlier point but it said a problem was preventing restore, now the earliest restore point is after the date when the problem started so its not worth trying that again.

I read on here that update KB3004394 may be the problem and it should be uninstalled, I have found this update in update history but not in installed updates.

Im at a bit of a loss as to what to try next, any advise would be much appreciated

1. Which security software in installed in the computer?
2. Are you referring to an update not getting installed or multiple?

Error 800706F7 can occur after a control self update that has not fully completed and requires a reboot. The controls may need to be reregistered. Let's follow the methods below (credit: Gerry C J Cornell) and check.

Method 1: Run chkdsk and check the status.

a. Click Start and then click All Programs

b. Click Accessories, right click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator from the drop down menu.

c. Type *cd* and press ENTER.

d. Type chkdsk c: /r without the quotes and hit ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated.

e. Enter Y when asked whether you wish to run chkdsk on restarting the computer.

f. Type exit, press the ENTER key and restart the computer.

Method 2: Since you are also facing multiple issues, please run System File Checker tool

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow

Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

**Method 3:**A common cause for these mismatches is a faulty Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver

Download and install the latest version from the article below and check.

Method 4: Run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool in normal mode and check the status.

I was asked to chose what program I wanted to open the file, and I stated Opera, so whan I have downloaded the file Opera flashes another box on top, and it goes away, and the file does not load the program. It adds another download that I need to delete in the downloads.  I cannot get the damned file to load the program!  i HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT DAMNED PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTER SENSE THIS **** HAPPENED!  I AM SO DAMNED SICK OF THIS ****!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT TO TAKE THIS PIECE OF **** COMPUTER AND DESTROY IT! THE CREATORS OF THIS KIND OF MACHINES ARE NOTHING BUT ****! THEY SHOULD NOT MARKET A DEVISE THAT CAN SCREW THE HELL UP AS THESE DAMNED THINGS DO!!!!!!! THE BASTARD THAT TAKE OUR CASH! AND ALLOW THE 750.00 BUCKS TO GO DOWN THE DRAIN ARE ARE BUNCH OF YOU KNOW WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Method 1 does not re-register the controls! Those are instructions for running chkdsk.

C:\Windows\system32>cd\ C:>chkdsk c:/r The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Method 2; worked

13 updates successful, defender works, troubleshooter works

When I try to connect my printer a message pops up- USB device not recognised error code 43. All hardwares are ok, I thought it might be the lead so I bought a new one but that doesn't connect either, last week my printer was working it connected and printed ok. I have tried the method in the link below but that doesnt work either. I read on here I should try the fix it tool but when I tried to download it it said download may harm computer.
