Windows 8.1 Display issues

Hello, I'm needing a little help with diagnosing an issue.

I have a HP 8470p laptop, I recently(2-3 weeks ago) did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64 Bit. The laptop hardware specs are i7-3610QM ,12GB Ram and a 480GB SSD.

After installing Windows 8 I ran windows update and 8.1 update. I also installed HP drivers including Video, function keys, wireless button, Bios, DriveGuard. I've also installed a few other programs but mainly ScreenConnect support software and BlueIris security camera software. This laptop acts as a support server and a 24 hour home surveillance server.

Everything worked just fine for a few days before I noticed an issue. Firefox opens to just a white window, if I click where the close button should be it closes. Also Intel HD Graphics Control Panel drop down menus don't display properly. Here are some screen shots Intel, Firefox. IE displays and works just fine no signs of a video driver issue. As a test I tried Fish Tank IE, HTML5 and GL all displayed normal.

A couple of days later after noticing the problem I ran a system restore but it didn't fix the issue. Later I did a clean boot and everything worked just fine. I then booted it normally and everything worked fine again, for a few hours. Then I did a partial clean boot, I disabled only startup items in task manager. Again everything worked fine so I enabled 1 item rebooted everything worked. 1 by 1 I enabled all startup items and again everything worked fine for a while.

Basically I'm lost on what I need to do to diagnose this issue any further. I found errors in Event Viewer but nothing that stands out.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, I manually downloaded and installed it. Everything I was seeing was pointing me to a video driver issue, so I tried it. As you can see it didn't help!

Intel HD Graphics Control Panel drop down menus don't display properly.

I'm surprised you still have any.  MS seem to have removed it completely on my Surface Pro.  The only vestige of it is in the Settings Search,  Win-w  I HD G  I can see the icon but nothing launches.

So, did you do something to bring it back?   <eg>

Hello, Thank you for the reply.

    First Firefox is version 35.0.1

The screen shots of the programs.

Here are the Event Viewer Errors.

Also yes I used your windows 8.1 update link and I do have KB 2919355 installed.  Windows update appears to be  working just fine, updates for Windows defender are coming through.

Let me know if you need anything else or what you want me to do.

Update I noticed Opera 28 is a white screen also. Windows Store doesn't work right either, it opens fine but then just goes to a purple screen. I think the purple is due to my theme.
