Blue screen error Bug Check Code: 0x50

Split from this thread.

My dad updated his laptop on October 19, after that he's gotten the BSOD 0x50. I deleted the fntcache.dat but that didn't solve the problem.

I tried to do the get packages thing, but I couldn't get that to work, but as far as I can tell the KB packages that were installed aren't the same as the these packages from August-September.

Is there anything else I can try?

There's no last recovery point.... I can't boot up at all, not even in safe mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I took out the hard drive and was able to find the windows update log:

With Windows Update the best I can say is avoid multi-tasking when updating.

    Hi Gerry,

I didn't realize that the Lenovo OneKey Rescue System was so easy to do! Without being able to bootup at all (not even in safe mode) I didn't know how to restore to the factory settings.

Anyways, the laptop is back at default and is up and running! But I have a question: Is there a good rule of thumb when to install Microsoft's updates?  (I've disabled the automatic install updates as of right now).

Thanks again for taking a look at the problem and helping out.

Are able to recover the dump file and upload to your OneDrive? The dump file will be created at c:\windows\minidump. Looking at it from another computer c will be changed.

Have you recovered all data files? If yes you could consider restoring to factory settings.

What is your computer make and model? If not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model?
