Hi Kelli,

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with the keyboard. I understand the frustration when things don't work the way it should.

  1. What is the make and model of your laptop?
  2. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
  3. What is the antivirus program on the computer?

**Method 1:**Check the behavior of the keyboard in the safe mode. You can refer the below link to start the computer in safe mode.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809468

If it works fine you can proceed to with the second method.

Method 2: Do a clean boot. When you start the computer in clean boot, the computer starts by using a pre-selected minimal set of drivers and startup programs, and because the computer start with a minimal set of drivers, some programs may not work as you expected.

Follow the below link to do a clean boot.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting"

**Method 3:**I would suggest you to “Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter” by referring this link.

What if a device isn't installed properly :

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-device-isnt-installed-properly

**Method 4:**Uninstall the Keyboard driver, restart the laptop and check. This should fix the issue.

  1. Press Windows and R keys together.
  2. Type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
  3. Double-click  Keyboard, right-click the keyboard that you use, and then click Uninstall.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. First, turn on the device, if you have to, and then plug the device into the computer. Your computer detects the device and then reinstalls the drivers for the device.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues. We will be happy to help you.
