Windows 8 Thumbnail Cache

Anonymous

Windows 8 and 8.1 continually delete the thumbnail cache.

I have a fairly fast system but find myself waiting for it to re-display the thumbnails many times.

As someone who works with image files I find this unacceptable.

There are some really crazy solutions for this out there, like going into registry and so forth.

Why can't Microsoft just fix this issue once and for all???

It has been a problem for years now. You see it in all the forums. Everyone is complaining about this issue.

If Windows 10 doesn't address this issue I'm finally out the door and headed to the Mac store.

I can't take it anymore.

    Hello Michael,

    Thank you for the update.

I recommend you opening the link in Internet Explorer.

The page is authenticated. However, if you are seeing popups or other script message please reply with the details and screenshot of the page.

Refer to the following link for **Downloading Microsoft Security Essentials**.

Windows 8.1 has been updated with required Windows Update packages so it should not give your lagging/other performance issue.

Please perform all the suggested troubleshooting methods on my previous post and reply with the details if issue persists.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply, in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

Thanks, but when I try to go to the Microsoft Safety Scanner go it seems to be not like any other Microsoft page or product that I have used, and it is continually trying to launch scripts which Chrome prevents from running.

Is this page for real? Why wouldn't it ask before running any scripts??? So I don't trust it at all and not even sure if this is a real Micorosft product.

Secondly, I have used ALL versions of Windows up to 8.1 (from the very beginning of Windows) and this is the first time that thumbnails are such a problem. Plus I heard Windows 8 was designed this way.

So I doubt a clean boot or sfc/scannow (which would not even load) would do any good.

    Hello Michael,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per your description, I understand that your issue is related with the time its taking to open pictures on thumbnail. It may vary from one computer to another. While using the Windows, users need to ensure that its performance is up to date.

    1. How much time does it take for Thumbnail to display pictures, when you open full screen File Explorer?
    2. Have you installed any third party security program on your computer?

I recommend you to go through the following methods:

    Method 1:

I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

    Method 2:

Boot the computer in a clean boot state and check the status. A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application service or startup item is causing this issue.

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow steps under “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” in the article to boot to normal startup.

    Method 3:

Run a full computer scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner to make sure that the computer is free from virus.

Safety Scanner Disclaimer: There could be a loss of data while performing a scan using Microsoft safety scanner to eliminate virus if any.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues, we’ll be glad to assist you.
