I'm running into an error when installing SCOM 2019 reporting feature. This is with a fresh SSRS 2019 installation. I have tried several times. It makes it most of the way through then runs into an error and rolls back. Relevant log portion is below. Any ideas?

I found the resolution to this issue. The cause was that the SCOM service account did not have READ access on the administrator account that was doing the installation. I added READ access to the admin account for the SCOM service accounts and the installation succeeded.

I should have been more clear. All of my accounts are in active directory. The admin accounts had some non-standard restrictions on them - one being a custom ACL for the AdminSDHolder object, which is what AD uses to apply permissions to the administrator user account. The ability for Authenticated Users to read those users was removed. To resolve this issue, I had to grant the SCOM service account READ access on AdminSDHolder, so it could read the active directory object.

I have found that if you used nested groups, you will get this error. Insure the SCOM Admins Group group is added DIRECTLY to the local administrators group on all the SCOM role servers. I had a customer who nested the SCOM Admins group into another group they put into the Local Admins group, and the reporting installation would fail everytime at applying security extensions....

From the error message you provided, it seems the issue is with permission. Please make sure current install account has local administrator permission on the server and has “sysadmin” role level rights over the SQL instance.

Thank you for the reply. The installation account is domain admin and local admin and also sysadmin in SQL. I just double checked all and confirmed.
I tried a fresh installation on a brand new server VM and got the same error.
